The Dystopia of William Gibsons Neuromancer Essay

The Dystopia of the Neuromancernbsp;nbsp; The Neuromancer is a world of darkness, where the society is slowly becoming corrupted. There is violence, excessive drug use, and lack of individuality, which portray this world as a disturbed and inhumaine society. The Neuromancer is an experiment to see how the society would react if the world was taken over by computers, and everyone were only concerned about themselves and their survival. Unfortunately, it is only a test, which ended up blowing up in their faces. The dystopia of the Neuromancer casts a dark shadow, which destroys the living. The violence in the Neuromancer is insaine. Constantly, there is someone dead, injured, or running away from someone else. Survival is the key†¦show more content†¦(14)He rented a gun, because he felt that he needed to protect himself while living in such a violent enviroment. When he told Shin I need a gun. Like I maybe want to shoot somebody, his violent thoughts were portrayed.(14) Where there is violence to this degree, it is wise to watch your back. This place was like an octagon, where a person is cornered everywhere and there is no escape. When someone lives in an enviroment such as the Neuromancer, everyone wants out. No one wants to be surrounded by rage, anger, crime, street-dealing, and where people walk around like robots, not showing any sign of humanity. However, there is no escape. Case wants his mind to escape this madness. This is where he turns to drugs. Most drugs are sedatives, and help a person relax and take his mind to an entirely new place. When case goes to the bar in the sky port, he feels like he is in a new planet.(1) He found himself a place to take his mind off of the reality of the Neuromancer.(1) There he has himself a drink, cigarettes, and gets high off of drugs.(1) When something bad is happening, it is like his body senses it and develops a massive drug deficiency.(1) His nerves can not take this insanity. When he sees all the violence and crime, he has a massive drug craving. It is his only means of escape. Where there is humanity, there is logical thinking and individualism. I believe that this is what separates human beings from animal species.
